Independent Studio Continues to Amplify Voices with Bold Storytelling Across Languages
Mumbai, May 6, 2025
Kinoscope Films, an emerging film production house in India’s independent cinema landscape, proudly announces a major milestone: the official selection of two of its feature film projects at WAVES 2025, a prestigious film market platform held at the Jio World Centre, Mumbai, from May 1-4, 2025. These selections embolden the studio’s unwavering commitment to championing regional voices and tackling socially relevant narratives.
Selection Highlights at WAVES 2025
Doosra Byaah (Levir): A Standout Among India’s Top 15 Projects
The first project, Doosra Byaah/Levir, a Haryanvi-language film, garnered exceptional recognition as part of the WAVES Bazaar’s Viewing Room – Top 15 Projects (PIB TEAM, 2025). This competitive segment featured India’s most promising independent cinematic endeavours, spotlighting films that push the boundaries of storytelling. Beyond its selection, the film’s creators were invited to present a video pitch in the Pitch Room, offering an exclusive opportunity to engage with stakeholders in the global film market.
Red Woman: A Finalist in the Animation Filmmaker’s Challenge
The second project, Red Woman, also in Haryanvi, was shortlisted among the 42 finalists for the Animation Filmmaker’s Challenge, organized by Dancing Atoms in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. This challenge highlights innovation, creativity, and bold narratives, and Red Woman stood out for its vivid storytelling and socially impactful themes.
WAVES 2025: A Celebration of Diversity in Indian Cinema
WAVES, an initiative by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is dedicated to celebrating India’s rich linguistic diversity and cinematic potential. This year’s edition placed a strong emphasis on narratives rooted in underrepresented regions and languages, promoting gender equity and community-driven stories. According to PIB, the platform featured exemplary works from across India, fostering a deeper understanding of its cultural and regional complexities.
The selection of Doosra Byaah and Red Woman at WAVES 2025 is a testament to Kinoscope Films’ dedication to nurturing marginalized voices and creating cinema that resonates deeply with audiences. Their socially relevant themes, coupled with powerful writing and grounded cinematic approaches, highlight the studio’s ability to amplify narratives often overlooked by mainstream cinema.
